Purpose
The Adams County Workforce and Business Center exists as the source of security to passionately serve our community in becoming the best version of themselves.
The Adams County Workforce Development Board (ACWDB) is comprised of dedicated community leaders who focus on advancing workforce development. The ACWBD is comprised of representatives from private industry, nonprofits, and public agencies. Federal legislation mandates the ACWDB to oversee public investments in employment and training programs, a responsibility that is accomplished through the operations of the Adams County Workforce and Business Center.
Amazon Tour
On Monday, Aug. 26, Adams County Workforce Development Board (ACWDB) members and staff, along with Commissioner Steve O’Dorisio, toured the Amazon Last Mile Drivers Academy, located at 6150 N. Downing St. in Denver. This facility is the only one of its kind in the country, training drivers for five Amazon delivery stations in the Metro Denver region.
The training includes two, eight-hour days at the site and covers their driving course, slip-trip-fall simulator, virtual reality, and driving simulators. This includes classroom time and learning how to handle safe loading. The third day includes On Road Experience with a drive along that includes a veteran delivery associate.
To date, Amazon has trained over 12,500 drivers since March 2022 at our Last Mile Driver Academy. During their peak busy times, they can train over 300 drivers per week and during off-peak times, they can train over 150 drivers per week.
As the largest employer in Adams County, this tour provided the ACWDB a valuable opportunity to observe the training processes at the Amazon driver facility.

Workforce Development Month
September is Workforce Development Month!
Established in 2005 by the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP), Workforce Development Month highlights the vital role of the workforce industry in strengthening the national economy. Every September, states across the country come together to celebrate the contributions of workforce professionals and the significance of workforce development.
In celebration of Workforce Development Month, the Adams County Workforce & Business Center (WBC) organized a series of activities to raise awareness of their vital role in the community and to showcase the programs and services they offer to job seekers and Adams County employers.
To kick off the month, the Adams County Board of County Commissioners officially proclaimed September as Workforce Development Month during a public hearing. Peter Brissette, Chair of the Workforce Development Board, and Jodie Kammerzell, Administrator/Local Area Director for the WBC, were present to emphasize the crucial role that workforce development plays in the Adams County community.
On Tuesday, Sept. 12, the Adams County Workforce Development Board held an awards event sponsored by Apex Transportation and Adams County Regional Economic Partnership (AC-REP) to recognize and celebrate the successes achieved through the WBC.
Award categories included Workforce Development Employee, Partner, Board Member, Educational Institution, Employer, and Job Seeker of the Year. Commissioner Eva J. Henry attended the event and shared her own success story about how the WBC helped her secure employment years ago, underscoring the importance of the services and programs offered to job seekers.
The awards ceremony began with recognition of the immediate past Chair of the Workforce Development Board, Amy Clement. Amy is the Human Resources Manager for United Power and served as the board chair for the past four years. Under Amy’s leadership, the board not only provide strategic direction, but also fostered a culture of collaboration, advancing workforce development initiatives that addressed the evolving needs of the Adams County community. Her commitment to excellence, innovation, and advancement of the board’s purpose significantly shaped the success of the WBC.

Other events planned for Workforce Development Month include:
- A customer appreciation table with information and giveaways available in the ACWBC Lobby throughout the month.
- Weekly Workforce Development Month Email Blast with information for Employers and Job Seekers.
- Workforce Development Month In-Person Job Fair on Sept. 25 at the Adams County Human Services Center, 11860 Pecos St., Westminster.

On November 11, 2023, Commissioner Lynn Baca joined the Adams County Workforce Development Board (ACWDB) to be recognized as a High Performing Board for the fifth straight year by the Colorado Workforce Development Council (CWDC). Local Workforce Development Boards in Colorado are recognized as high performing by the CWDC when they achieve a series of key performance indicators and the ACWDB achieved the highest score available. The ACWDB is comprised of diverse and knowledgeable community members who actively participate in board meetings and activities supporting the local workforce system. They serve as liaisons between the community and the local workforce center, and actively work to accomplishes goals and strategic priorities through data driven, business-led meetings. This recognition is well deserved!
